OpenTAP Technology Explained

OpenTAP is built with simplicity, scalability, and speed in mind. It is an extendable and cross-platform architecture, built on the .NET Platform. From its wide range of sequencing functionality and infrastructure, you can quickly select from a catalog of plugins, develop plugins tailored to your automation needs, and utilize industry-standard AI code-generation technology (Claude, Gemini, etc.) to automate plugin creation from LLM prompts, including requirements, specifications and other artifacts.

Plugins can include drivers for SCPI-based instruments or anything else with an API; result listeners to capture, format and analyze data; and custom user interfaces.

The OpenTAP engine and OpenTAP plugins are designed to be reused and shared. OpenTAP itself is distributed under the Mozilla Public License (MPL), an OSI-approved weak-copyleft license, enabling sharing of the engine, plugins and test plans with the OpenTAP community.
